A Tuscan Wine Tasting
Posted On: 3/16/2015

The ID Beverage Group Program Committee brought passion and sophistication to the elegant Michelangelo lobby last Tuesday, March 10, 2015. To promote two of the finest Tuscan wines from Greve in Chianti, hotel guests were invited to try the Chianti Classico Gallo Nero and Super Tuscan Vindia.

The passion of producer Marco Mazzoni is evident through his wines, carefully and lovingly cultivated in his winery in Corte di Valle, just outside Greve in Chianti in Italy. The wine making in the over 20 hectares of vineyards started more than two decades ago, carrying on the family tradition of handpicking grapes and aging the wines.

The timeless Chianti Classico DOCG, a favorite of many wine lovers, and the Super Tuscan Vindia that boasts of a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Sangiovese, the last one famously known the grape at heart of Italy, are two of seven wines produced in the land.

Located moments away from Central Park, Times Square, and Fifth Avenue, the Michelangelo hotel offers a haven of luxury to both tourists and locals alike. Among the attendees of the tasting were Johnson Ho of the Pantheon Wine Society in Northbrook Illinois, and a representative of Pogo Wines and Spirits in Dallas, Texas.

Among the favorites was the Super Tuscan Vindia 2009, a Bordeaux style wine made with a blend of international varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. This wine is full body with intense nose of spicy red fruits and notes of vanilla. On the palate, it is pleasant and a long finish with round tannins showing the Sangiovese at its best! However, the Chianti classico was still the star of the night, preferred by majority of the tasters.

The Tuscan Wine Tasting is the third of six wine tasting events to be held at the Michelangelo Hotel. After all, if you are looking for a group of wine enthusiasts among a random group of people, go right in the heart of New York City in Midtown Manhattan. The last two will be on Tuesday, April 7, and Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 5pm to 7pm.
